Spit Card Game [Rules and How To Play]

What is Spit card game?

Spit, also known as Speed, is a fast-paced 2 player card game where the goal is to be the first player to get rid of all their cards. It’s easy-to-learn rules, and fast speed of play makes it an exciting game to play at parties, with family, or relaxing with your significant other.

How to set up Spit card game?

To play Spit, all you need is a standard deck of 52 cards.

The game should be played on a flat surface, like a card table, with players sitting across from each other.

The dealer shuffles the deck and deals two face-down piles of 5 cards. One pile on the right side of the players, and the other on the left side. Between the piles of 5, the dealer should place two face-down cards next to each other. These are the starter cards.

The dealer then splits the remaining 40 cards into piles of 20. Each player takes one of these piles.

How to play Spit?

Each player should pick up 5 cards from their pile of 20, and place them in their hand.

To begin the game, players will turn over the starter cards at the same time.

Once the cards are flipped, players can begin to lay any playable cards in their hand on either of the face-up cards, creating two piles. Playable cards are any cards that are equal in value to the top card on the pile, or any ascending/descending in value. (If the card on top is a 5 of hearts, you can play any 4, 5, or 6).

Aces can be used as both a 1 or an Ace.

When you lay a card, you may pick up another card from your pile. Players should have up to 5 cards in their hand at a time.

Play continues until neither player can lay one of the 5 cards in their hand. When this occurs, players will simultaneously flip the top card from the “pile of 5”, then continue to play. If the players can’t play on the cards that were flipped, then they repeat the process.

Play continues until one player lays all of their cards. The first player to lay all of their cards and yell “spit”, wins the round!

The first player to win 5 rounds wins the game.

Spit is an excellent card game for all ages. Since all you need is a deck of cards, it’s a fun game to play while camping or on a road trip.
