What is Baseball drinking game?

Baseball drinking game is a combination of a beer pong and baseball, where players shoot ping pong balls at their opponent’s cup in order to get hits, score runs, and win the game. The game consists of two teams with at least four players, and it lasts for 9 innings.

This is one of my favorite games to play at college parties since you can get a large group involved, it’s easy to learn rules, and it involves a combination of beer pong and flip cup skills.

To set up you’ll need:

  • At least 16 solo cups

How to set up a Baseball drinking game table

To set up the table, you’ll need to line up 4 cups in a row on each end of the table.

You’ll also line up 3 cups on each side of the table.

Finally, each team should have a wash cup on their end of the table as well. The graphic below shows exactly how the table should be set up!

The single, double, triple, and homerun cups should be filled up about a quarter of the way with beer.

On the side of the tables, the 1st base cups should be filled about 1/3 of the way, the 2nd base cups, should be filled halfway, and the 3rd base cups should be filled with beer.

Baseball drinking game rules and how to play

To start, you’ll need to pick teams. Baseball drinking game consists of two teams with anywhere from 4 to 9 players on each team. There should be an equal number of players on each side.

To determine which team is the home team and which team is the away team, a captain from each team should battle each other in a game of flip cup. The player to drink and flip their cup the fastest is the home team.

Once the teams are picked, it’s time to start playing!

The away team will start off “batting” while the home team will start off “fielding”.

Batting team

The team up to bat will take turns going through their lineup, trying to shoot the ping pong ball into the other team’s cups. If your shot misses, it’s an out. If you make your shot, then it’s a hit. The hits are as follows:

  • Front cup = single
  • Second cop = double
  • Third cup = triple
  • Last cup = homerun

Once you get a hit, you’ll move to the side of the table and stand next to the appropriate cup. (If you got a double then stand at 2nd base).

Scoring runs in baseball drinking games

Scoring is exactly like baseball, where any player that crosses home scores a run. For example, if a player throws a triple and then the player behind them throws a single, then the player on 3rd base would move home and score a run.

Stealing bases

If you’re on a base, you have the option to try and “steal” a base. You can steal by drinking the cup associated with your base, and flipping it faster than the catcher on the other team can drink and flip their cup. If you beat them, you move to the next base. If you lose, it’s an out.

Fielding team

The “fielding team” or team that’s not throwing, must drink the appropriate cup anytime an opponent’s throw is made. The player who has to drink the cup is up to the discretion of the team.

When your opponents are on base, one player from your team should be across from them at the corresponding cup. If your opponent tries to “steal” a base by starting a game of flip cup, then you can throw them out, by drinking and flipping your cup faster than them.

Innings & How to win

The away team will always start each inning off as the throwing team. After 3 outs, the home team will become the throwing team. After they get 3 outs, a new inning begins.

Every time a player on the throwing team “crosses home” a run is scored.

The team with the most runs after 9 innings wins! If it’s a tie after 9 innings then the game continues until one team is ahead at the end of the inning.

Recap

There’s a reason Baseball drinking game is America’s favorite pastime (or at least mine). It is easy to learn how to play, and it provides plenty of entertainment and excitement for your party.

It makes for a good no card drinking game, or event at your Beer Olympics party.

If you play, be sure to let us know in the comments what you thought! Please drink responsibly and enjoy your night.
